Genetic Testing Resources
Get the latest information on molecular lab testing (genetic testing).
About Genetic Testing
Precertification for certain Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codes for molecular laboratory testing (genetic testing) is serviced through EviCore by Evernorth®.
Program Objective
EviCore ensures appropriate utilization of genomic testing through evidence-based clinical policies and medical necessity review.
EviCore reviews and ensures that genetic tests have sufficient clinical evidence to support their coverage.
For more information on laboratory guidelines visit EviCore.
To request precertification
- Log in or register for the EviCore provider portal
- Genetic counseling is no longer required for precertification
We continue to encourage all Cigna HealthcareSM customers considering genetic testing to consult an independent genetic counselor.
Genetic counseling provides individuals with the opportunity to fully understand complex genetic tests and make an informed decision about testing. Please refer to our list of participating genetic counselors.
In-Network Genetic Counselors
If you're an in-network, board-certified genetic counselor or clinical geneticist and you are not on our list of participating genetic counselors, but would like to be, please email us at GeneticTestingProgram@Cigna.com with:
- Your name
- Your billing tax identification number (TIN)
- The name of the facility you're a part of
- Your service address
For access to a nationwide network of participating telephone genetic counselors, please contact one of our preferred genetic counseling providers:
- InformedDNA at
1 (800) 975-4819 or - Genome Medical at
1 (877) 688-0992
You may also visit the National Society of Genetic Counselor’s website. Please note however, that these search results may include non-participating genetic counselors as well as counselors who work for a laboratory.
